Fez California Fruit Crate Label

SKU: CRL1085
$3.05 USD

Historic Overview

This great vintage fruit crate label features a Fez hat, with the letter “T” framed in jewels, sitting on a green Moroccan pillow. The crate label measures 13” Wide x 4” High and dates back to circa 1960. The fruit was grown and packed by Tamouzian Brothers, Inc. of Cutler, California.

The Fez hat, also known as the tarbush, is believed to originate from the city of Fez, Morocco. Actually, a high brimless hat similar to the Fez was worn in ancient Mesopotamia around 1000-1600 B.C. The dye for the hats came from a berry grown outside of the city of Fez. Most Americans are familiar with the hat from the Shriners, or Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, who adopted the red Fez as a part of their uniform.
