This crate label from the RAYO brand measures 13” Wide x 4” High and dates to the 1930s. The label features an image of both yellow and red Emperor grapes in varying sizes on a light blue background. The grapes were grown, packed, and shipped by J.D. Martin of Tulare County, California. Get this label and you will have a “Good Year”.
The J.D. Martin Ranch in Tulare County was the scene of the famous Delano Grape Strike in August, 1965, by Cesar Chavez, director of the National Farm Workers Association. The current pay was $1.25 per hour and they stuck for an increase to $1.40.
