This Solari's Elite Brand Tea label measures 4.4" Wide x 4.5" Tall and went on a one pound package of English Breakfast Tea. This was Solari's private brand and we think the label was printed by Walle Printers of New Orleans, Louisianna, and dates back to the 1920s. You can tell that it was a coveted brand since the price for this one pound package was a hefty $.80.
Opened in 1864, by the Solari family on Royal Street in New Orleans, Solari's Grocery Store was the primary food destination in the city for locals and tourists alike. Solari's carried imports from around the world like pickled eels in jelly, 10 different types of dates, 17 varieties of foie gras, Florida guava jelly competing with Cuban guava jelly, and honey from such far-flung places as Syria, the Dalmatian coast, Spain, Jamaica and Greece. Their tag line in the 1920s was, "Everybody Shops at Solari’s", which was pretty much true. They even installed 6 phone lines (a lot back then) to keep up with home delivery and shipping orders. The line of International products from all over the world, wowed New Orleans shoppers and helped the city to become the byword for sophistication.
