This colorful Texas crate label is the Gold Mine brand; grown, packed, and shipped by the Valley Fruit Company of Pharr, Texas. The label measures 6.25” Wide x 3” High and dates back to the 1940s – 1950s. The company’s 111,000 sq. ft. packing facility was pivotal is making Pharr a hub city during the 1940s. The building is being renovated to house the region’s first Farm-to-Market Museum.
The Valley Fruit Company, now known as the Valley Fruit and Vegetable Co., Inc, is still in operation today with headquarters in Pharr, Texas. In 1999, its president, Dan Seitz, Jr., was named chairman of the Business Management and Trade Relations Council of the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association. Its products today consist of Carrots, Grapefruit, Oranges, and Cabbage under the brand names of Grand Prize, Better N Ever, and Gold Mine.
