    This unique and rare vintage apple crate label is from the 1940s – 1950s and measures 9” Wide x 7.75” Tall. It features a drawing of William Tell practicing his famous arrow shot through an apple on a young boy’s head. It’s interesting that this drawing depicts William Tell using a crossbow instead of a long bow. The apples were grown, packed, and shipped by R.N. Barber & Company of Waynesville, North Carolina.The Barber Orchards have been operating their orchard since 1903. They are now famous for their Barber Orchards Fruit Stand in Waynesville, 36 miles west of Asheville, North Carolina. They are known for their pumpkins and fresh baked goods, as well as their apple products and you can get there by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway.

    The orchards and Waynesville are located in Haywood County, North Carolina. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Pisgah National Forest and the Harmon Den Wildlife Refuge make up 40% of this beautiful mountainous county. Its most famous mountain is Cold Mountain the basis for the book and ensuing 2003 movie.
