Historic Overview

This antique color plate features a colorful image of a pair of Myrtle Warblers. The print comes from the book Bird-Life, A Guide To The Study Of Our Common Birds by Frank M. Chapman, Curator of Ornithology, American Museum of Natural History. The book was originally copyrighted in 1897 and again in 1899 and 1901 by D. Appleton and Company. This edition published by McClelland & Goodchild Limited of Toronto is the Popular Edition in Colors from 1901. The colored plates were produced after drawings by Ernest Thompson Seton.

This vintage print is Plate LXI or 61 showing the Myrtle Warbler in its natural habitat. The Myrtle or Yellow-rumped Warbler is the only Warbler to remain in the Northern states during winter. It might have something to do with finding its favorite food of bayberries in the area up and around New York. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” grey matte to setoff the beauty of the birds. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
