Historic Overview
This antique color plate features a colorful image of a Red Shouldered Hawk. The print comes from the book Birds That Hunt And Are Hunted, Life Histories of One Hundred and Seventy Birds of Prey, Game Birds and Waterfowls by Neltje Blanchan. The book was originally copyrighted in 1898. This volume was published by Doubleday, Page and Company of New York in 1902. The color plates were copyrighted in 1897 and 1898 by The Nature Study Publishing Company of Chicago, Illinois.
This antique image of the hawk is 1/3 Life-size and nearly jumps off the page. He has a small green snake in his talons. The print is professionally matted in a large 11” x 14” deep brown colored matte to setoff the beauty of the bird. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.
Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!
