Mandrake - 1923 Vintage Color Print

SKU: VMP1014
$16.50 USD

Historic Overview

This antique color illustration has lovely white flowers against a striking dark background. The print comes from the book Wild Flowers Worth Knowing by Neltje Blanchan and adapted by Asa Don Dickinson for the Little Nature Library originally copyrighted in 1917 and published in 1923 by Doubleday, Page & Company for Nelson Doubleday, Inc.This plate is titled “Mandrake or May Apple” and its description was featured on page 74 of the book. Children used to call the leaves green umbrellas and declared they unfurl only during April showers. The flowers, although pretty, have an unpleasant scent and the fruit produced in July resembles a yellow egg-tomato. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” grey/tan colored matte to setoff the beauty of the image and will be shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “mint” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
