Grey Emperor Butterfly - 1926
Historic Overview
This antique color plate features a colorful image of the Grey Emperor Butterfly. The print comes from the book Butterflies by Clarence M. Weed, D. Sc. It was part of The Nature Library. The book was originally copyrighted in 1917 and 1926 by Doubleday, Page & Company of New York and published by them for Nelson Doubleday, Inc.
This colored illustration features the butterfly in its natural habitat. The Grey Emperor Butterfly, also known as the Hackberry Butterfly has a quick, darting flight that makes it very noticeable in the open woods where it makes its home, but its underside colors are admirably protective in plain grey. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” pale purple colored matte to setoff the beauty of the butterfly. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.
Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!
WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
