SKU: CRL1082
$3.00 USD

Historic Overview

The Independent Brand crate label features a great image of the Liberty Bell prominently in the center of the label on a blue background. It is marked with the growing region, Hood River, and the specific area, White Salmon District. This label measures 10” Wide x 9” High and is from the 1940s. The produce was packed and distributed by the Washington Fruit & Produce Company of Yakima, Washington.

Washington Fruit & Produce Company was incorporated in 1916 by Fred B. Plath to grow, pack and ship apples, pears and peaches from the Yakima Valley. In the 1950s they started growing cherries for fresh packing. By the early 1970s they decided to remove their peach acreage to focus their energies on apples, pears and cherries only.

Today the company is still family owned and operated. They farm apples, pears, cherries and wine grapes throughout Eastern Washington while keeping their packing operations based in Yakima.
