RAYO Emperor Grape Crate Label
Historic Overview
This RAYO Brand crate label was for their Emperor grapes. It portrays a colorful sunrise dawning behind the mountains that overlook the vineyard. The label also features a beautiful light red or pinkish bunch of Emperor Grapes. This crate label measures 13” Wide x 4” High and has a copyright of 1925. The grapes were grown, packed, and shipped by J.D. Martin of Tulare County, California.
The J.D. Martin Ranch in Tulare County was the scene of the famous Delano Grape Strike in August, 1965, by Cesar Chavez, director of the National Farm Workers Association. The current pay was $1.25 per hour and they stuck for an increase to $1.40.
