Wenatchee Chief Peach Crate Label
Historic Overview
This Peach Crate Label measures 10” Wide x 4.75” High, is in mint unused condition, and dates back to1948. The label features a very colorful image of an Indian Chief. The fruit was packed by Wenatchee Wenoka Growers Association of Wenatchee, Washington.
Local Native American lore claims that the name Wenatchee (Wa-Nat-Chee) comes from a poetic description of the area meaning “robe of the rainbow.” This is appropriate for this lush valley sitting 600 feet above sea level. Today it is known as the apple capital of the World with over 170,000 acres of orchards including peaches.
