    Historic Overview

This antique color illustration features the colorful image of a Mutton Fish. The illustration comes from the book The Green Book of Salt Water Fish by Joe Godfrey, Jr. The book was copyrighted in 1939 by Whitman Publishing Company of Racine, Wisconsin. It is one of a series of two fish guides. The color illustrations are by Gordon Ertz.

This vintage illustration shows a Mutton Fish or Pargo with a detailed description. Its technical name is Lutianus analis, more commonly known as Mutton Snapper, and it is a large fish found from Florida to Brazil.  One of the most common snappers, the mutton snapper is one of the best saltwater fishes to eat. The larger fish resemble the red snapper with firm white flesh, and perfect for baking or broiling. The print is professionally matted in an 5” x 7” brown matte to setoff the beauty of the fish. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
