    Historic Overview

This label sports a poker hand of four aces, usually recognized as the “Highest Hand” in a poker game. Clearly to indicate the fruit is of the highest quality. In reality, the highest hand in a poker match is the Royal Straight Flush, but who cares, this is a great label. The label measures 10.75“ Wide x 3“ High and was lithographed by Louis Roesch Litho of San Francisco, California. Since it has a zip code on the address it is probably from the 1950s.

The Loomis Fruit Growers and Packers Association was incorporated in 1901 and its central packing plant was constructed in 1926. The High Hand Fruit Sheds employed up to 100 workers in the peak of the seasons and shipped the local fruit to the major markets throughout the country and the world. The fruit sheds still stand and now house the High Hand Nursery.
