Up North Washington Apple Crate Label

SKU: CRL1089
$3.75 USD

Historic Overview

This whimsical Washington Apple Crate Label measures 10” Wide x 9” High and dates back to the 1930s. The label features an adorable image of an Eskimo child holding on to the top of a giant candy cane striped pole coming out of the earth, showing off an apple in his/her hand. The Up North brand and the apples that came in the bushel were grown and shipped by Dwinnell Bros. Orchards in Oroville, Washington.

Oroville, Washington, is in the Okanogan Valley which is a high desert region. The town of Oroville was first settled in the late 1950s and was called “Rag Town”. It was originally named Oro after the Spanish word for gold to attract prospectors to the area and the surrounding gold mines. The post office was not happy with the name because it was too close to a town named Oso, Washington. So in 1909, the town was renamed Oroville.
