    Historic Overview

This antique color plate features colorful images of Grasshoppers and Locusts. The print comes from the book Field Book of Insects, of the United States and Canada by Frank E. Lutz, Ph.D., the Curator, Department of Insect Life of the American Museum of Natural History. The book was originally copyrighted in 1918 and again in 1921 and 1935. This edition published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons of New York is the Third Edition, Seventeenth Impression, revised in 1948.

This colored illustration is Plate 79, featuring five (5) different insects.  The Pterophylla camellifolia, a Long-horned Grasshopper, is known as a True Katydid. The male, pictured here, emits a sound by rubbing his legs together that is famous for sounding like “Katy did” or “Katy didn’t” when he calls his mate. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” purple matte to setoff the uniqueness of the insects. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
