Troy Evaporated Milk Label

SKU: ULB1129
$2.45 USD

Historic Overview

This vintage milk label is for Troy Brand evaporated milk and measures 9.75" Wide x 4" Tall. The milk was distributed by United Milk Products Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio, and dates to the 1920s. It features a lovely delicate illustration of Helen of Troy on either side as a background for the text. The center of the label has a scene of a farmer herding his cows down a hill with a powerful mountain range in the background. Under that is its slogan, “The Best Ole Bossy’s Got”, poor Bossy. This vintage label is really dramatic with its teal, black, and white colors meant to evoke purity and cleanliness.

Evaporated milk, or dehydrated milk as it is sometimes called, is a canned product that has had 60% of the water removed from fresh milk. When the water is mixed back in it becomes the equivalent of fresh milk again (although everyone will tell you it doesn’t really taste like fresh milk). This process allows milk to last for years and was very popular in the days before refrigeration. It is still used today in baking because of its unique taste.
