  1. Denison's Crest Washington Apple Crate Label

    SKU: CRL1076
    $2.85 USD

    Historic Overview

This colorful, unused label for the Denison's Crest brand of Washington Quality Apples features the brand name in a fancy cursive and Gothic-style gold script. Also featured on the label is a made up family coat-of-arms incorporating an apple, oil lamp and Scottish thistle with the motto, "Quality and Service". The label is from the 1940s and was produced for the H.S. Denison and Company of Wenatchee, Washington and measures 10.25” Wide x 8.75” High. The label went on a bushel crate and is in very good, unused condition and is eminently suitable for framing.

Paul Scea and Leslie Lewis opened Denison’s Wenatchee Branch in 1924 after a freeze wiped out most of the company’s fruit crop in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. In a 1989 interview, Mr. Scea recalled the going rate in those early days of a box of apples was 10 cents.
