    Historic Overview

This label measures  6“ Wide x  3“ High and is from the 1920s – 1940s. The deep red, navy, and yellow colors make it perfect for framing. It comes from the New Orleans Import Company, which was established in 1888 as a spice importing company. The company later changed its name taking advantage of the local euphoria surrounding the arrival of the Grand Duke Alexis Romanoff of Russia in New Orleans. Thus the King of Spices, Rex Fine Foods, Inc. was born.

It was the first company to offer a fully seasoned fish fry and the first to offer crab boil. REX later acquired Horse-shoe Pickle Works Ltd. Company and brought on a wet side to the product line offering pickles, olives, vinegars, and mustards.
