    Historic Overview

This antique color plate features a colorful image of a Flicker Woodpecker. The print comes from the book Bird-Life, A Guide To The Study Of Our Common Birds by Frank M. Chapman, Curator of Ornithology, American Museum of Natural History. The book was originally copyrighted in 1897 and again in 1899 and 1901 by D. Appleton and Company. This edition published by McClelland & Goodchild Limited of Toronto is the Popular Edition in Colors from 1901. The colored plates were produced after drawings by Ernest Thompson Seton.

This vintage print is Plate XXVI or 26 showing the Flicker in its natural habitat. This woodpecker is less of a carpenter than other species of woodpecker and prefers decayed logs and stumps for food. Here he finds his favorite food of ants. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” black colored matte to setoff the beauty of the bird. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
