This label measures 5.25” Wide x 1.8” High with gilded edges in mint unused condition. It is packed by the R.J. Peacock Canning Company of Lubec, Maine and features a picture of Mr. Peacock.
Lubec succeeded Eastport as the sardine canning capitol of the United States. It has a population of 1,655 and the town name Lubec comes from the German town of the same name. The last sardine packing plant in town, Lubec Packing, ceased operations in late 2001, ending a long history in this industry. The R.J. Peacock Canning Company now processes salmon instead of sardines. Another venture at the Peacock site is a sea urchin hatchery.
