    Historic Overview

This antique colored plate features a beautiful image of a grouping of Day Lilies. The print comes from the book Field Book of American Wild Flowers by F. Schuyler Mathews, who was a Member of the New England Botanical Club. The book was originally copyrighted by Mr. Mathews in 1902. This revised edition was copyrighted in 1927. It is the Twenty-ninth printing by G. P. Putnam’s Sons of New York and London, printed in 1929 by The Knickerbocker Press. The color plates are by the author.

This delicately colored illustration features a cluster of Day Lilies in full bloom and ready to bloom. This lily was originally a native of Europe and Asia and escaped from gardens to our country. The technical name, Hemerocallis Fulva, comes from the Greek and means beautiful for only a day. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” reddish/brick colored matte to highlight the beauty of the flowers. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
