We are featuring here our three Florida citrus labels that have female images. First are the Rita-Anne Citrus label (Measuring 6.75” x 3”) which is from the 1950s and the Ruby Citrus label (Measuring 9” x 3.4”) also from the same era. They both feature pinup girls from the era and are a good representation of the styles of the 1950s. The labels were lithographed by Louis Roesch Co. of San Francisco, California. The fruit was packed and shipped by the Lake Region Packing Association of Tavares, Florida.
The Lake Region Packing Association was formed in 1909, and is Florida’s oldest citrus cooperative. In 2004 it joined as the newest member of Dundee Citrus Growers Association. This consolidation created an organization positioned to better serve the growers, marketers and consumers through increased efficiency while still providing access to quality citrus fruit.
The final label is our Dolly Brand Citrus Label which comes from the 1960s. This unusual vertical crate label measures 8” Tall x 3” Wide and features the image of an adorable young girl holding an orange. The shipper/grower is H. Jennings Rou, Inc. of Eustis, Florida. The company is still in business today, headquarted in Eustis, Florida.
Our ladies of the Florida citrus industry will create a striking collage of labels for framing.
