Pemco Brand Smoked Sardines Label - Original Version - Maine

These Pemco Brand Smoked Sardines labels are from the 1940s. It is the original version of the brand with a captain in foul weather gear smoking a pipe and large sardines caught in nets on either side. This very colorful label measures 4” Wide x 2.75” High. The sardines were packed in pure olive oil and this is just a wonderfully striking label. This sardine label comes from the Sunset Packing Company of West Pembroke, Maine.

The Sunset Packing Company started operations in 1900 and was the largest sardine factory in West Pembroke. It also manufactured oils and mustards used to flavor the sardines. The Sunset Packing Co. had to close its doors in 1962 due to competition from Norway.
