Sharp-Shinned Hawk - 1901 Color Print

This antique color plate features a colorful image of a Sharp-Shinned Hawk. The print comes from the book Bird-Life, A Guide To The Study Of Our Common Birds by Frank M. Chapman, Curator of Ornithology, American Museum of Natural History. The book was originally copyrighted in 1897 and again in 1899 and 1901 by D. Appleton and Company. This edition published by McClelland & Goodchild Limited of Toronto is the Popular Edition in Colors from 1901. The colored plates were produced after drawings by Ernest Thompson Seton.

This vintage print is Plate XVII or 17 showing the Sharp-Shinned Hawk in his natural habitat. This is one of the real culprits in Hawkdom feeding almost exclusively on young birds. They can prove a big problem to farmers once getting a taste for young chickens, they make daily trips. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” brown colored matte to setoff the beauty of the bird. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!
